The popular monthly inter-generational social event, Tea Dance With A Twist! is back at Plymouth Guildhall on Saturday 12 November, co-hosted by Plymouth Dance and Miss Ivy Events.

Whether you prefer to waltz, jive, cha cha cha or lindy hop, or even if you’re a complete novice, Tea Dance with a Twist! is a chance to don your dancing shoes and trip the light fantastic down memory lane alongside a team of highly trained Plymouth Dance dancers.  Live music is performed by the Drat Pack or the Metropolis Swing Quartet.

As well as offering a social activity that is Dementia and Parkinson’s Friendly there will be a Vintage Tea Room and an Independent Living Zone, where local service providers can have a stand enabling them to provide face to face advice and information. Over 200 people are expected at each event.

June Gamble, Coordinating Producer Plymouth Dance said: “After the success of the 3 events last summer, we are really excited to be able to continue to present ‘Tea Dance with a Twist!’ during 2016 and 2017 at Plymouth’s iconic venue – Plymouth Guildhall. If you enjoy dancing or simply watching and listening to a great band, whilst enjoying a cup of tea and a slice of cake, Plymouth Guildhall is the place to be.

We are also delighted to be working in partnership with Miss Ivy Events and thank our current supporters: City Bus, Councillor Singh, Councillor Stevens, Councillor Beer, Plymouth City Council Diverse Communities Events Fund and Arts Council England for their support. We continue to look for more partners to help us to continue to present more events in the future, so if your organisation would like to become a ‘Tea Dance with a Twist! partner, please do not hesitate to contact us.”

Tea Dance With A Twist! aims to improve health and wellbeing through participation in a social and physical activity.  The project is specifically targeted at over 50s and looks to encourage community cohesion bringing different people together. As well as being open to the general public, Plymouth Dance is actively promoting these events to people living with disabilities, Parkinsons, dementia or any other medical condition that they may feel prevent them from fully accessing other dance classes and opportunities.  The aim is to work in partnership with other dementia friendly organisations to help Plymouth become a dementia friendly city.

Tea Dance With A Twist! is run by Plymouth Dance. Plymouth Dance connects creates and celebrates dance by raising awareness of dance through marketing and social media and co-designing and delivering citywide partnership projects that use dance as a vehicle for change www.plymouthdance.org.uk
