Study identifies challenges and rewards of working with two-year-olds

A study on those who work with two-year-olds in the early years setting, with a particular focus on government funded part-time places for children from the most disadvantaged families, has highlighted the complexity, the challenge and the rewards.

The report, published by Plymouth University and Oxford University researchers, and funded by TACTYC (an association for professional development in the early years), is aimed at managers of settings, training providers such as universities and FE colleges, Local Authorities who offer funded places and/or training, and politicians.

The findings include a strong preference for a good level of training and the ability to work with families with complex needs.  The study also highlights whether the two-year-old offer is sufficiently well funded.

A seminar to discuss the report in more detail will be held on 2 December at Plymouth University and an online version is available to view on the TACTYC website.
