A student from Ridgeway School has won a silver medal in the National Rowing Championships.

14 year old Phoebe Lansley was part of the Plymouth team who came second in the 2KM team race. Fellow student Tillie Buxton also competed at the event held in London.

“It really was a wakeup call saying to me, you are capable of doing something if you believe in yourself no matter how hard it gets,” said Phoebe. “It does go to show, teamwork and even positive thinking can help you reach your potential.”

Ridgeway School is really proud of its recent rowing achievements. Back in February Phoebe and Corey Seldon won bronze and silver medals at the Plymouth schools event.

This month five students competed at the South West Rowing finals - Jake Grenney and Carrie Irwin, Phoebe Lansley, Tillie Buxton and Corey Seldon.

“Everyone who participated gave it their all and there was determination across the board,” said Phoebe. “Rowing is a tough sport and only the determined, dedicated and mentally strong people make it through and all the students that took part showed these traits. Even if you don’t win a medal doesn’t mean you’re not a good rower, because if you always stay resilient that medal will come to you soon enough and trust me, it will be worth it.”
