Ridgeway School hosts multi skills day
Ridgeway School hosted its annual Key Stage 1 Multi Skills Festival for primary schools across Plympton recently.
The event was hosted by 22 young leaders from The Leadership Academy at Ridgeway School. Teams from Boringdon, Chaddlewood, Glen Park, Plympton St Maurice, St Marys and Yealmpstone Farm all came along to take part in a number of different events and activities.
These ranged from tests of skill and accuracy with the Bean Bag Throw; team events such as a Sprint Relay and Ladder Relay; speed and agility with the Speed Bounce and even a test of strength with the Chest Push challenge.
“It was fantastic to see the 72 primary school pupils taking part and having fun,” said Claire Crowther, PE Specialist Teacher at Ridgeway School.
“I would like to say a huge thank you to the Leadership Academy—they conducted themselves professionally and it was down to to them that the event was such a success. Thank you as well to all of the teachers, volunteers and parents that came along—there was a fantastic atmosphere and it was so great to see all the adults enjoying it as well.”
Every child that took part received a certificate and the overall winning team, Chaddlewood Primary School, received a special certificate.
As well as competing for points for their team, there were some events where the children had the opportunity to compete for an individual medal.
Jake from Plympton St. Maurice won the medal for the boys in the Speed Bounce having completed 43 jumps in 2o seconds.
There was a tie between Evie from Chaddlewood and Millie from St. Marys for the girls in the Speed Bounce—they each completed 35 jumps in the allotted time.
Boringdon Primary were the winners for both boys and girls in the Chest Push event—congratulations to Archie who made an impressive 5.30m throw and Eva who got 3.60m.
Chaddlewood Primary were on target for boys and girls in the Bean Bag Throw— Keira scored an impressive 75 points and Romeo managed a perfect score of 90!
“I really hope that all of the competitors enjoyed themselves,” said Claire Crowther. “Everybody was trying so hard and it was great to see so many smiles as well.”
