Public invited to view proposals for the rebuild of part of Plympton Academy

The Principal of Plympton Academy is inviting parents, local residents and businesses into school next week to view the proposals for the rebuild of a substantial part of the Academy site.

The school, which has 900 pupils and is situated in the heart of Plympton, is working closely with architects Stride Treglowen, contractors BAM and the Education and Skills Funding Agency to deliver the demolition and rebuild.

The development will be centrally funded through the Department for Education’s Priority School Building Project which rebuilds and refurbishes school buildings that no longer meet the expected
condition.

“Our aim is to inspire success for all within our learning community and evidence shows that the design of a school promotes the performance of students and a more creative approach to teaching and learning,” said Principal, Lisa Boorman.

“The proposed site layout focuses on delivering a successful and dynamic education environment for current and future students. Much of the old section of the Academy will be replaced with state of the art, purpose built learning spaces.

“Being at the heart of the community, we will look to provide new shared community facilities, such as a new large hall and gym, classrooms, ICT spaces and a library, allowing others to benefit from the new Academy.”

Plympton Academy is preparing to host a consultation event to give local residents and businesses the opportunity to share in its vision and explore how they might contribute to the future of such an important development for Plympton and the wider region.

The public viewing will take place on Monday July 16th from 15:00 - 18:30 in the Main Hall at Plympton Academy.

“We hope that as many people as possible will come along so they can see for themselves what the future might hold for all our staff, students and the wider community,” said Lisa Boorman.

Members of the project team will be on hand to answer questions and feedback is welcome on the emerging proposals before the planning application is submitted.
