Plympton Academy top performing non-grammar school
Following on from Plympton Academy’s best GCSE results ever, the school, formerly known as Ridgeway, is the top performing non-grammar school in Plymouth.
The ranking of the Plymouth schools, published in a local daily newspaper, is based on the five or more A* to C GCSEs or equivalent, including English and maths, achieved by pupils entered for those exams in 2015.
This year’s results at Plympton Academy were up 7% on last years and 17% on two years ago. Nearly all subjects saw a 100% pass rate, which contributed to the school’s overall 61% 5A*-C pass rate including English and maths.
“We are so pleased to be ranked as the top performing non-grammar school in Plymouth,” said Plympton Academy Principal, Lisa Boorman. “We are going through some very exciting times at the school and this shows how everyone, students and teachers alike, have pulled together and worked hard to achieve these fantastic results.”
Other results show 92% of students studying Spanish achieved A*-C with 50% of these either an A or an A*.
The school has also achieved higher than the national average in mathematics and English language.
The percentage of students achieving an A*-C within mathematics is 10% higher than the national average and 5% higher than the national average in English language.
41% of Year 11 students achieved an A* or an A in religious studies.
