Plympton Academy students create remembrance wall

History students from Plympton Academy have created their own remembrance wall inspired by local fallen soldiers or family members who were involved in World War 1.

The Year 7 and 8 pupils then made a poppy for them and put it on the display in the school’s Learning Resource Centre. Each poppy had its own personal message attached.
“I think making the poppies showed a lot of respect,” said Year 8 pupil Jacob. “I think it is really nice that we remember the soldiers who built our world.”
Fellow student Ruben agrees. “The memorial wall reminds us to respect soldiers in war, it also reminds us of the people that died.”

The display was inspired by the poppy wave on Plymouth Hoe. “After seeing it I decided to create a display of our own in the Learning Resource Centre (LRC) with the aim of raising money to help support the Royal British Legion,” said LRC Manager, Julie McGlinchey.

With the help of family and friends Julie knitted and crocheted lots of poppies which were sold in school raising £75 for the charity.
