Plympton Academy students celebrate GCSE results

Plympton Academy students will celebrate today as they collect their GCSE exam results.
Despite the introduction of the new harder GCSEs in English and maths, the pass rate remained strong in both of these subjects.
The students, who sat their exams in June, are the first group to receive their maths, English Literature and English Language results in a new format.
The traditional GCSE grades A* to G are being phased out and replaced by a numbered grade scale from 9 to 1. Nine is the highest grade.
For most other subjects - including biology, chemistry, physics, computer science, French, Spanish, religious education, geography, music and history - the new grades will start being awarded from the summer of 2018.
As well as good performances in these academic courses, there were excellent achievements in the creative subjects at Plympton Academy, including Photography, where 40% of students achieved A*/A and 92 %of students achieved A* - C.

"The GCSE results of our students really reflects our ethos and culture; we expect the highest outcomes in the core subjects whilst equally recognising the importance and value of subjects where students can develop their creativity and confidence such as art, performing arts and photography," stated Lisa Boorman, Principal at Plympton Academy.

Last year’s Head boy, Connor Burn and Head girl, Natasha Barber are both celebrating excellent GCSE results today.

Connor achieved, maths (9), English Literature (6), Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Statistics (A*), Computer Science, History, Religious Studies, Spanish (A), Engineering (Distinction*) and AS maths (C). He’s staying on at Plympton Academy to study A Level chemistry, physics, maths and further maths.

Meanwhile former Head girl, Natasha Barber achieved English Literature (7), English Language (6), Catering, Religious Studies (A*), Geography, History (A). She’s staying on at Plympton Academy to study A Level biology, history and English.
