Plympton Academy has its own defibrillator thanks to local charity
Plympton Academy now has its own defibrillator thanks to a local charity.
HeartSWell South West is a registered charity committed to supporting heart patients, their partners and carers across the Westcountry, and has donated a defibrillator to the secondary school.
It’s recommended that schools have a defibrillator on site, and four members of staff at Plympton Academy are trained to use the device, although it can be used by anyone as it gives out verbal and visual instructions. A defibrillator is a device that gives a high energy electric shock to the heart through the chest wall to someone who is in cardiac arrest.
The school is now planning some fundraising events for the charity next year.
