Plympton Academy given Gold Award by Woodland Trust

Plympton Academy has been given a Gold Award by the Woodland Trust for its commitment to planting trees on the school site.

The students have also grown wild flowers, made bat boxes and sited insect houses. Over the past two years the school has successfully achieved the Trust's Bronze and Silver Awards and have now received the Gold.

The school was presented with an engraved plaque by the Roman Catholic Bishop of Plymouth Mark O'Toole.

The Bishop said: "Pope Francis shares your concerns about the urgent need for us to care for our common home. I am very impressed with your efforts to care for and support the other creatures with whom we share our world.”

Teacher Martin Edmonds said: "We are very proud of our students and their commitment to not simply planting trees, but watering, weeding and protecting them. The Academy has just taken over an allotment and we have even bigger plans for the future."
