Plympton Academy celebrates GCSE success with Arts-Photography results exceeding the national average

Plympton Academy located on Moorland Road, and part of Thinking Schools Academy Trust, is marking their students' remarkable GCSE grades today.

The Academy is pleased to see a year of strong results, particularly in the Arts-Photography where Plympton has measured a whole grade above the national average for progress once more. Sports-based subjects at the Academy were also far above the national average.

This year, over 73% of students at Plympton Academy achieved a grade 4 or higher in English, while 62% attained this level in Mathematics, marking significant improvements over last year’s results.

All students achieved well though there were some standout performances, including:

  • Harry Kua, who achieved all grades above a 7 including a 9 in English, 8 in Science, 8 in History, 7 in Mathematics and a Distinction in Sport.
  • Lauren Wood, who achieved a 9 in English, 9 in Photography, 7 in Science and 6 in Mathematics amongst other amazing results.
  • Aiden Williams, who achieved a 9 in Science, an 8 in Mathematics, and an 8 in History, to highlight some of his achievements.

Collecting GCSE results today, Iwan Theilmann said: “I'm absolutely over the moon with my results. All my hard work has paid off. I can't wait to start my next chapter, studying Music Technology and Performing Art at Plympton Academy.”

Lauren Wood said: “I'm going on to study Psychology, History, English and Core Maths A Levels at Plympton Academy. I'm so proud of all my hard work and achievements. I'm really excited to start my next journey in September.”

Shaun Willis, Vice Principal at Plympton Academy, said: “A huge congratulations to our Year 11 students for a wonderful set of results.One of the most rewarding aspects of my role is witnessing the moments of growth and personal achievements among our pupils. 

“I am looking forward to welcoming many of them back in September as they embark on their next steps in our sixth form.”
