City College Plymouth is running an Apprenticeship Information Event on Wednesday 11 March between 4.00pm and 6.00pm, at its Kings Road site in Devonport.

The College event is open to all who are looking for a training experience which differs from school or who wish to start or retrain in a new career. Visitors will be able to gain free impartial advice and guidance about their options, as well as having the opportunity to apply for current Apprenticeship vacancies with a whole host of local employers including the Real Food Kitchen, Kelly College, MGB Engineering Ltd, Hyde Park Pharmacy, Frances’ Hair and Beauty Salon, Plymouth Community Healthcare and the Royal Western Yacht Club.

Apprenticeships provide a stimulating way of learning with a mixture of College-based training and ‘on-the- job’ experience and the advantage of earning a wage whilst gaining a qualification. While the apprentice receives this extremely valuable experience, the employer also benefits by gaining a dedicated and skilled employee.

As employees, apprentices earn a wage and work alongside experienced staff to gain job-specific skills. To support their work, and usually on a day-release basis, apprentices receive training to work towards nationally recognised qualifications.

City College Plymouth has over 1000 apprentices in learning every year and since September 2014 has reached the impressive employability milestone of matching over 500 people to Apprenticeships in the City, Julie McLean MBE, Director of Work-based Learning & School Partnerships at the College, said: “Apprenticeships are a viable alternative to mainstream education and the fact we have placed over 500 people into Apprenticeships in the City and wider region demonstrates the extensive range of opportunities available to young people.

“We know that the service and opportunities we offer mean something; they mean real, valuable and beneficial jobs for young people.”

City College Plymouth’s Apprenticeship department was recognised by Ofsted as ‘Outstanding’ in 2012 and their Apprenticeship success rates are currently 15 per cent above the national average, meaning if a young person undertakes an Apprenticeship with the College they are more likely to succeed in finding a job in their chosen sector.

To start your career now with a City College Apprenticeship, come along to the Apprenticeship Information Event on Wednesday 11 March, 4.00pm to 6.00pm, at their Kings Road campus. Save time on the day and register your attendance in advance at www.cityplym.ac.uk/events or call 01752 305300.
