You're Hired! In search of Plymouth's most employable 17-year-old

The final of Plymouth’s ‘You're Hired!’ will take place today and tomorrow in the Roland Levinsky Building at the University of Plymouth.

The concept of ‘You're Hired!’ is to find Plymouth’s most employable 17-year-old sixth-former. In order to get to these final stages, 11 city sixth forms each staged one of the heats and students competed in two of the challenges provided by local employers. Each challenge was designed to test the sort of skills these employers require. Some skills are specific to each company but most of the skills would be the type that any employer looks for, such as teamwork, initiative, communication, leadership, coaching, presentation, problem solving analysis and attention to detail.

Tomorrow the students will be required to give a group presentation, which will then be followed by a presentation from James Brent, Chairman of Plymouth Argyle FC and Chairman and CEO of Akkeron Group LLP.

After this the students will then be told who the winners in this year’s competition were.

The judges of the competition are all locally based and are well established in their field of business and a wide range of companies are involved from Balfour Beatty to Browne Jacobson LLP.

The Careers Coordinator, Heather Longford, from Plymouth High School for Girls says:

“Taking part in You’re Hired is one of the highlights in the Year 12 Programme at Plymouth High School for Girls. It was a real honour to have one of our 6th formers awarded Plymouth’s most employable 17-year-old last year. Yet again we have a very strong team and we are eagerly awaiting the results which are due to be announced at this week’s award ceremony.”

The final winner will be announced tomorrow, where they will be given the prestigious title of being ‘Plymouth’s Most Employable 17-year-old 2013.'
