Animation agency celebrates decade of design success

The award-winning, Plymouth based animations studio Pushed, responsible for creating TV programme titles, adverts, corporate films and motion graphics, is celebrating its 10th anniversary.

Formed by Dave Meadows in 2005, after a round of redundancies at ITV's regional graphics department, Pushed has been pulling in high calibre clients from television, business and charity.

Within their extensive portfolio, the Pushed team have been responsible for designing programme titles and graphics - on behalf of production houses Two Four and Denhams - for some of TV’s most popular shows including Rick Stein’s Venice to Istanbul, Rhodes Across Italy and Rachel Allen’s All Things Sweet. The company has also made TV adverts for Brittany Ferries, The Western morning News, Trago Mills, Furniture World, The Theatre Royal in Plymouth, the Devon and Cornwall County Shows and even the Qatar motor shows.

Big name corporate clients include Volkswagen, Cadbury's, and AXA who have commissioned online promotional films while, on behalf of Exeter-based KOR Communications, Pushed have animated the colourful histories of large family businesses Clinton Devon Estates and the international firm Smedvig, which made its name in oil and shipping.

Charity projects have included a TV and cinema commercial for St Luke's Hospice, on behalf of Sigma Advertising.

2010 Royal Television Society award winner Dave, whose studio is based in Plympton near Plymouth, works with wife and business partner Karen, graphic designers Ben Parker and Musaab Garghouti and marketing representative Suzanne Tate, herself a former ITV colleague.

Dave said: "Running a motion graphics company from a regional base isn’t easy because most commissioning is done from London which is still very much the hub of the UK’s creative industries. Thankfully, improvements in technology and superfast broadband has helped us to stay in a part of the world we love.

“I really believe that it doesn’t actually matter where you’re located because, to produce good animation, you need to have a passion for the creative process and the team at Pushed has that in bucketfulls!

“We’ve built strong relationships with some fabulous, loyal clients, who realise there’s no need to go out of the region to achieve the quality and standard so often associated with much larger agencies.”

Suzanne added: “It's amazing how many new businesses have been developed by ex-ITV staff. Pushed is a brilliant example of where we can bring the best animation and design honed at ITV, to the South West business community.”
