Teenage driver seriously hurt in Yelverton crash

Police are appealing for witnesses after a teenage driver suffered serious injuries following a collision with a tree in Yelverton.

The green Vauxhall Corsa left the carriageway and collided with a tree on the A386 at Chubb Tor, near Yelverton Golf Club, on Sunday 6 March 2016, at around 6.50am.

No other vehicles are believed to have been involved in the collision.

The 18-year-old female driver, from Plymouth, who was the only occupant in the vehicle, was extracted from the vehicle by Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service.

The driver was taken by ambulance to Derriford Hospital, in Plymouth, where she currently remains. She suffered multiple injuries, including serious leg and head injuries.

A forensic examination of the scene was carried out and the road was reopened at 1.30pm.

Officers from Serious Collisions Investigation Unit are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.
