Skatepark designs on display

The Central Park Skatepark is set for an exciting makeover.

As part of the wider improvements to the park, the skatepark will be revamped into a destination facility, offering something for beginners, right through to professionals which could also host events and competitions in the future.

Plymouth City Council has teamed up with Freestyle Skateparks and after an initial consultation over the summer, is now ready for final feedback on the concept designs.
A drop-in session will be held at the Bowling Pavilion from 3pm until 7pm on Thursday 16 November to gather final thoughts on the plans.

The council and Freestyle are particularly keen to invite existing users of the site - skaters, BMX riders and parkour - as well as anyone who has an interest.  

Patrick Nicholson, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Strategic Transport, Housing and Planning, said: "I've been very much looking forward to seeing the skatepark designs and I've not been disappointed. They look fantastic and it will be great to see the next generation of skaters and BMXers using the facility.

"This will form an important part of the Central Park improvements and I'm delighted to have been part of the team who delivered it."

Plans include an extension to the existing site with a snake run, popular with skaters and BMX riders. There will also be a training bowl for those less confident riders and skaters and additional seating for spectators. 

A new area for Parkour, known as free running, similar to an obstacle course, is also included in the concept designs.
 
Once design is finalised, work is expected to start in the new year.
