Plymouth care home celebrates Queen's 90th birthday
The Queen’s birthday was celebrated in style at an award-winning Plymouth care home. Tamar House held a party for residents and their family and friends who shared Royal memories along with a birthday tea. Betty Paddon, celebrating her 98th birthday, cut the cake and Marjory Wheatley reminisced about working alongside the Queen in the Women’s Auxiliary Territorial Service during World War II. Manager Gill Poad said the party was a joyful occasion: “It was fantastic to see everyone enjoying themselves and sharing memories about their own experiences during the Queen’s reign.” Ann Bulmer, aged 93, remembered spending her late teenage years in the Women’s Land Army working on farms in nearby Newton Ferrers. The youngest guests were 18-month old twins Amelie and Ailla Keep, grandchildren of 92-year-old Philomena Keep. Gill added: “The Barber Shop choir royally entertained us all with patriotic songs and everyone really got into the spirit of the day. “I’d like to say thank you to the whole team who set everything up. A great day was had by all!” The residential home, in Brest Road, was officially opened by HRH The Prince of Wales in 1991.
