New police inspectors at the helm
Two of Plymouth’s neighbourhoods have welcomed new police inspectors.
Inspector Robin Loveridge has taken over responsibility for the South Sector, covering the city centre, waterfront and Stonehouse. His police career dates back 16 years – all served in Plymouth where he has lived for 20 years.
He said: “I have seen the area change a great deal in the time I have lived and worked in the city, with huge amounts of development and investment. As a police officer I pride myself on a strong moral compass to do what is right, to ensure we protect those most vulnerable people in our communities. I am really excited to have this new opportunity to manage a fantastic bunch of officers all working to ensure the public feel safe in the city, tackling crime and bringing offenders to justice.
“I am keen to understand what the key issues for residents and businesses are in my area and to work in partnership with not only statutory agencies but all the groups and organisations that are out there doing some truly excellent work. I have already started to tackle the ongoing issue around street drinking and associated antisocial behaviour and am looking at the policing of our evening and night time economy.”
Inspector Andy Smith is in charge of the Central Sector covering Plymstock, Prince Rock, Laira, Lipson, Mount Gould, Greenbank, Mannamead, Efford, Compton and Mutley Plain. He has 14 years’ policing experience including time on the beat across the city and most recently working with a team responding to 999 calls.
Andy said: “My family are rooted in Plymouth and I am passionate about making it a safe and welcoming city we can all be proud of. I am committed to being as visible as possible. In my first few weeks I have been on foot patrol in Lipson, Mount Gould, Mutley Plain and the University of Plymouth. I have spoken with many people and am already gaining an understanding of what is important to local communities.
“My ongoing commitment is to explore all the other parts of the diverse sector, which covers coastline, residential and commercial areas, to understand the bespoke policing needs of the local communities. I will be accessible through the teams I work with both in person, via social media and through partner agencies.”
