MEP attacks soaring cost of temporary staff at Plymouth City Council
South West and Gibraltar MEP Dr Julia Reid has raised concerns over damning new figures that show the amount spent on temporary staff by Plymouth City Council has sky-rocketed.
Plymouth City Council spent just under £8.7 million on temporary staff in 2014/15 compared to just over £7 million the previous financial year.
The figures, obtained by UKIP MEP Dr Julia Reid through a Freedom of Information request, show the amount spent by the authority rose from £7,042,410 to £8,675,659.
Attacking the figures today, Dr Julia Reid MEP, said: “I am appalled by these figures which show taxpayers’ are footing an ever-increasing bill for temporary staff at Plymouth City Council.
“The rise of more than £1.5 million in the amount spent on temporary staff in the last two financial years shows the local authority needs to review its recruitment policies.”
