Christmas recycling and bin collections
Plymouth folk are being reminded to recycle as much as possible and to get rid of rubbish responsibly over Christmas.
The Council is putting on a special collection to pick up all the real Christmas trees once the festive period is over. This scheme will run from the weeks beginning Monday 11 January and 18 January and will run until Thursday 21 January.
All people have to do is to put their tree out next to their bin or bag and a crew will pick it up on the day their rubbish and recycling is due to be collected. The tree rounds will operate separately but will be timed to make sure it is on the same day as people’s bins are out.
The Council is helping to keep the season of goodwill by putting together a quick guide to what goes in the recycling and what should go in the bin. For more information visit www.plymouth.gov.uk/christmasrecycling
Foil, for instance, providing it is not covered in fat can go in the recycling bin or bag. Bits of Christmas cracker though, should not.
In the week between Christmas and the New Year, collections will be a day later than usual except those who get their bin and bags picked up on Thursday, which will be two days later.
• Monday 28 December will be picked up on Tuesday 29 December
• Tuesday 29 December will be picked up on Wednesday 30 December
• Wednesday 30 December will be picked up on Thursday 31 December
• Thursday 31 December will be picked up on Saturday 2 January
The arrangements are subject to weather conditions. If collections are suspended for any reason they will continue the next working day (including Saturdays) until normal schedules are resumed.
Chelson Meadow and Weston Mill Household Waste Recycling Centres will be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day. For information about opening times visit www.plymouth.gov.uk/recyclingcentres
