TICKETS for the first free Plymouth Women in Business Networking group held today (Monday 1st Feb) at The Treasury Bar in the city were all booked up with 24 hours to go.

The lunchtime event was organised by Alexis Bowater of Bowater Communications and Clare Geraghty, Premier Banking Manger at Barclays to bring businesswomen together, network and provide peer-to-peer support and inspiration.

120 tickets were booked up online to the event and included businesswomen from all walks of life from startups to multi-million pound established city businesses.

The inspirational speaker for the first event was Lorraine Clark who has just moved back to Plymouth after living in Thailand for 12 years. Lorraine was a key member of Pluss when she lived in Plymouth before then. She shared her experiences of setting up a business and ladies networking groups overseas.

“I have seen and helped to set up networks all over the world but I have yet to see such an amazing turnout for a first time event set up in such record time,” she said. “The atmosphere here today has been absolutely amazing and quite infectious. I look forward to the next one with great anticipation.”

Alexis Bowater, co-organiser of the event, said: “Just fourteen days ago when we suggested this group we had no idea how much interest there would be in what we are doing. Today, 120 women in business turned up for the help, advice, peer-to-peer support, inspiration and networking that they know helps them to grow their businesses. That number reflects the need that there clearly is for this kind of event.

“We are an active, dynamic, responsive group that will champion those who attend and help them in any way we can. Networking like this can change businesses - indeed change lives - and we are very proud to be helping to provide that kind of support for free in this city.”

The event is due to take place every month on the first Monday of the month at lunchtime and will include an inspirational speaker at every event.

Next month the speaker booked is Annie Broadbent who is Organisational Development Manager at St Luke’s Hospice in Plymouth and also leads the Plymouth branch of Parliament 5050 - which is a cross-party campaigning group to ensure that men and women legislate our laws in equal numbers.
