Andrew Marr supports search for stroke heroes
Journalist, author and political commentator Andrew Marr is supporting a nationwide search for stroke survivors to enter the Life After Stroke Awards (LASA) 2015.
The awards, hosted by the Stroke Association, recognise the achievements of everyone affected by stroke, from survivors to carers, volunteers and health professionals. Andrew, who had a stroke himself in 2013, explained why he was supporting the event:
“These awards pay tribute to the character, guts and determination of extraordinary people who have come through the devastating consequences of a stroke The Life After Stroke Awards nominations are open. If you know somebody who has had a stroke or looked after someone following a stroke and deserves recognition then please nominate them.”
Jon Barrick, Chief Executive of the Stroke Association said:
“The Life After Stroke Awards are very special. They celebrate the unsung heroes who prove that together we can conquer stroke. Someone in the UK has a stroke every three and a half minutes and there are 1.2 million people in the UK living with the effects of stroke. It’s a dreadful condition, but this is a wonderful way to recognise the courage of stroke survivors and their supporters everywhere.”
The Life After Stroke Awards are sponsored by TONI&GUY Charitable Foundation. Winners will be invited to the awards ceremony on 25 June 2015, at the Rosewood Hotel in London. Nominations for the awards are open until 30 January 2015. For more information, go to www.stroke.org.uk/lasa
